Baroque terrace houses
Ceská Street in the western part of the historical centre of České Budějovice is a charming place with baroque houses from the 1st half of the 18th century. Most of them are without significant architectural or decorative details. The front of the houses on Czech Street adjacent to the Dominican Convent is very simply designed, but it catches the eye with its typification, which is not very common in the Czech environment.
The houses were built after a fire in 1728 in a short time span of six years thanks to the funds provided by the Saint Wenceslas Church.
The buildings are arched on the ground floor, divided by a characteristic central corridor leading to a staircase to the first floor with residential units.
Unlike other townhouses, however, they lack outbuildings and undoubtedly for this reason they have always been considered poor.
