Church of the Holy Family
The Church of the Holy Family is situated in the former convent of the Congregation of Sisters of Mercy of St Charles Borromeo. The entrance is from Karla IV Street. The single-nave building was designed by Gislene Béthun, and its walls and ceiling are decorated with rich, mostly floral and geometric patterns. A stained-glass window with the Hand of God is over the entrance door. By the eastern wall of the building is a statue of St John of Nepomuk made by České Budějovice sculptor Leopold Huber in the second half of the 18th century.
The church was not used for religious ceremonies for several decades. It was confiscated by the communist regime in the 1970s, and was used as a state archive repository for many years. After renovation in 2013, it was transferred back to the Deanery of St Nicholas. Its present-day appearance is the work of architect Josef Pleskot. His design has enabled students of the neighboring Bishopric Grammar School to hold masses and school events. After many years, it was opened to the public again in 2014, and is a venue for religious services as well as cultural and educational events.
