Mallner House / Prindl House
Piaristická 1/16, České Budějovice, 37001
shop on map In the corner of Přemysl Otakar II Square in České Budějovice, where Piaristická Street enters it, stands the extremely significant Mallner, or Prindl House. Its Classicist facade is admittedly not very imaginative, but its arcade faces the square with two Gothic pointed arches. A beautiful Gothic window jamb from the turn of the 14th century as well as a fragment of a fresco of the Adoration of the Magi were recently exposed near the entrance. The house owner, Ondřej Prindl, was among the richest citizens of Budějovice at the time. His profit came mainly from his trade in salt, which was transported from Linz via Freidstadt.
