The České Budějovice Observatory was opened as the second oldest public observatory in Bohemia thanks to the South Bohemian Astronomical Society. The planetarium and cinema theater were added in 1971. The observatory and planetarium focus on astronomical research and the presentation of astronomy and related sciences to the general public.
