City Centre Educational Trail

This is an extension of the educational trail located very close to České Budějovice called “Vrbenské rybníky”.

There is a new educational trail from the Stromovka park to the city centre that focuses on the so-called “urban” animal species living in the city.

The aim of the trail is to show that cities are inhabited by at least as equally interesting animal species as the surrounding nature, that arguably deserve our attention, and to bring knowledge of how humans coexist with nature.

Trail:

1)         Stromovka (by the children’s playground) = Park birds (ornithology) – local community + basic survival strategies

2)         The footbridge over the Vltava river (before you cross to the pool) = Mammals in human settlements (mammalogy) – beech marten, red squirrel, West European hedgehog, etc.

3) The blind branch of the Malše river (sandpit at the lido) = Beast of prey and owls in human settlements (ornithology) – common kestrel, Eurasian sparrowhawk, long-eared owl

4) Na Sadech park (at the end of the Krajinská street) = Corvids in human settlements (ornithology) – rook – the life of the individual in a colony, recruiting strategies in the search for food (in comparison with the western jackdaw).
